[FOOD REVIEW] Mellben Legend Seafood


Thanks to Silver and also Kelvin Soon, we had an awesome meal at Mellben Legend! You might have recognized this as a popular place for crabs as we have a branch in AMK and also East Coast etc. The one that was at East Coast have now moved to a new and more centralised location: 9 Opal Road! Oh, and each branch is operated by a different sibling in the Soon family while the one that is now at Opal Road is manned by the original (and the best) chef, who also offers his exclusive specialty dishes at this branch. I live to eat, so I often choose only the best stuff to enter my tummy (I'm so spoilt) and this restaurant definitely was one of the best seafood places I've been to.

We were served with their specialties that night, which I totally understood why they are that famous now. They don't just go with the Singaporean flow and have chilli crabs or black pepper crabs, but they re-invent them to be creative fusion dishes that other places don't serve. Why always eat the same stuff at different restaurants right? Of course, they do have popular dishes that Singaporeans love but they focus more on their special creations that sets them above other regular seafood restaurants.

1. Appetizer first! We have this dish of Signature Tofu to start. The tofu is not overly fried and crispy - it is smooth and goes really well with the sauce. There seems to be some kinda crunchy stuff (ikan bilis? garlic?) that creates a complementary texture.

2. Side dish~ We have some Nai Bai veg (idk what they're called in English >.<). They are yummy! No raw taste of undone veg but they are not overly soggy.

3. No meal is complete without a soup dish. We had their new dish, Lemon Prawns, which are zesty live prawns in a tom-yum kinda soup. I didn't have the prawns as I don't eat prawns, but the soup alone was great enough to win me over. I'm a super fan of tomyum and better to be more sour and less spicy. This was the taste I liked!

4. Now the show begins!~ CRAB LAKSA!!!!!!! You see, most places would serve "crab beehoon" and Mellben Legend created another fusion-style dish suited for local tastebuds. They do also have crab beehoon, but why have the same thing when a newer dish is available? hehehehehe. It wasn't too spicy yet it has a very traditional laksa taste. Nothing too coconut-ty, no worries :)

5. Dry Bak Kut Teh. Yes, its bakuteh style pork ribs in a savoury sauce. Each rib has adequate meat which was tender and not tough or dry like some bakuteh ribs get. I love this! The sauce was slightly sweet and slightly peppery. LOVE.

6. Curry Pepper Crab was yet another specialty dish. Not too peppery that it clogs your nose, but slightly sweet and spicy. The flavour was well-infused into the crab meat, which is awesome since most other crabs I tried are like *crab meat is seperately cooked from the sauce* and you don't taste a well-flavoured meat.

7. And now.. My favourite dish.. Golden Sands Crab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't explain how yummy this dish is. The smooth sauce, the tender pincer I had, the little golden mantou that absorbed the sauce, OMG. It has a slightly buttery-milky-eggy taste, not too heavy or oily. You know, like salty egg yolk crab but not too salty but more savoury? HAHA Ok I really don't know how to further explain this taste, but this was the best dish of the night and my favourite from Mellben Legend. You've gotta try it, definitely one of the best crab dish in Singapore.

After dinner, their little boss (the boss's son, actually haha) came out to play with us! He was having a fun time with Angie and the crabs >.<

...and he went to poke a crab in the eye! Ouch, says the crab >.<

Its a cosy little coffeeshop setting (they do have drinks as well, do try their super huge coconut juice and lemon-sourplum drink!) where you can see some pictures on the wall, of celebrities that came to eat. Its a really clean coffee shop I must say.

No doubt, they have the best crab dishes in Singapore. For a picky eater like me (not too spicy, not too salty, not too dry, not too sweet), this place is one of the best I've tried! Their seafood are live, meaning fresh and swimming until you decide to eat them, and not frozen for days. Do make reservations to avoid longggg queueeee!

[SAMPLE REVIEW] Skinfood Salmon Eye Cream

Hi! I got this a sachet of Skinfood's Salmon Eye Cream with some Korean cosmetics, and only recently I felt like trying it :P

I know right! Salmon?! On your skin?! Well, that's Skinfood for you. Salmon is not as bad as.. CREAMY CHEESE MASK! Well, I like cheese in my food but not on my face. *squirms*

It does not smell one bit like salmon. Smells a lot like jasmine flowers, A LOT!!! An overly strong smell of jasmine, which is weird since salmon is used instead. *50 points deducted*

It's a white cream, which I feel is oily and fatty, and only a little is required. This sachet lasted me for 5 times, for both eyes! Not the best texture for an eye brightening cream. I believe this is gonna be bad for people with oily or problematic skin and may not be able to withstand the richness of this eye cream.

Stays really oily for at least 10 minutes, felt like the absorption was reeeaaalllyyy slow. Besides, I've used it for 5 times and there are no significant changes. No brighteni…

[HAUL] Holika Holika!

The first branch of Holika Holika opened its doors in Singapore @ Wisma Atria today! Supposedly at 12, but when I reached there, they were still drilling and hanging stuff, and said to be back in 30 mins.

A huge poster of its ambassador at the side of its shop, CN Blue!!!!!!! Mysterious Magic Cosmetics~ (and endorsed by guys and a cat.. Hmm mysterious enough)

Before it was open! Yet to pull down its blinds~ It's a shop tucked at the corner, beside an escalator. Near Cotton On!
Couldn't get a nice picture of its sign! But you can see a bit of its interior, which is a lavender colour and has nice shelves! It goes with a mystical or magical theme :)
