[FOOD REVIEW] Onaka Restaurant & Wine Bar @ ARC

Hi~

Was happy to be invited to another food tasting session (thanks William!) and this is another awesome place that made me wanna go back for more. This place is called Onaka, which actually represents Optimum Nutrition And Kitchen Arts. It started in 2008, where they aim to nurture a nutritionally balanced lifestyle yet bring out the most delicious and wholesome food in today's world that has gone artificial and processed. Face it, for the sake of convenience, we have been neglecting the importance of a healthy lifestyle, or atleast, I have. This restaurant serves Conscious Cuisine, a tango of Asian culinary cultures with modern Western influence.

They use all-natural ingredients without artificial additives, colourings, chemicals, flavourings, MSG and trans-fats. About 50% of the menu is vegetarian with special focus on Low Glycemic, Gluten Free and Vegan options. Also, no pork or lard is served in the restaurant. I think its a really good place for groups with some vegetarian or Muslim friends among them' everyone can enjoy healthy food together!

Okay let me introduce the awesome menu we savoured that day~ but I need to apologise for the pictures with people in the background and the bad photos cos it was a group tasting and it was hard to get a nice angle. Hehehe and thanks to Angie for letting me use her pictures on the dishes I was late for, and also for the ones that wasn't well pictured on my cam :P

Asian Hummus

I loveee hummus and I think this is great! Chips and dip are always my favourite and I like stronger flavoured dips. This isn't too peppery or herby. Like olive paste and bread.

Bread basket

Tender and moist organic bread. There is a slight sweetness to this, which goes well with balsamic vinegar on the side. This item is available upon request.

Banana Soy Smoothie ($10)

This has a thick consistency and the taste of both banana and soy is prominent. Well I guess that means that there is not water or sugar added and it is definitely the purest stuff you get! This small cup is pretty filling too.

Watermelon Sashimi ($8)

I am a fan of sashimi in general, and this is not what I thought it was! Hahaha this is sashimi for vegetarians, made of compressed watermelon (very state-of-art process) and accompanied with roe and a home-made sesame sauce. THE SESAME SAUCE WAS AWESOME. It wasn't oily nor too liquid. I would love it on my salad. Sadly they weren't selling it :/

Avo Tofu ($14)

Salad greens tossed with walnuts and tofu in a light vinegar-ish sesame-ish sauce. Hehe. Okay but anyway I'm quite selective on my veg mix and I'm not a fan of rockets or nuts. This salad would hit the spot for health-conscious people as tofu is a great un-fattening but super nutritious item and also avocado, which needs no introduction I believe.



Mushroom tea ($8)

It was more of a soup. Inside the cup are mushrooms, natto miso. some seasoning like ginger and cute lil veg which I don't know what they're called (but they're cute). When the tea is poured in, it has a mushroomy chickeny flavour and it felt good and warm inside me when I drank it. You know, like a warm hug. Heheh.

Roasted Mushroom Soba ($16)

Warm soba (wasn't gritty! good!) in a mushroomy soup with mushrooms and cute veggies. It tastes really light yet savoury (lol, me, food review, yeah) and is one of the better sobas I've tasted. I love soba, namely cha soba and I always eat this wherever I try a place. But most sobas I've had are gritty with weird grains in them, except for more high-class places of course. For this price, I'll come back again. Also, its really healthy!

Hot & Sour Prawns Rice Noodles ($18)

This tastes like tomyam/laksa but is lighter, as in not all greasy and heavy herby smell. The noodles are smooth and soft. I don't eat prawns or have a good tongue for spicy food, but this is yummy! The soup was boiled with prawns and crabs for the ultimate real and flavourful soup base. NO MSG!

Organic Pineapple Fried Rice with Quinoa ($16)

You may not know, but I'm a super fan of Thai dishes, and this tops the list! What's better than enjoying your favourite food in a more healthy manner, but not less tasty? Its made with brown rice instead of our usual white rice, but it doesn't taste any worse, infact, it tastes better! It also wasn't too oily.


Duck Pancake ($24)

Duck confit wrapped with eggy pancake, drizzled with honey and garnished with spring onions. Great combi! I like how its savoury but is healthy still. Its hard to achieve such a balance. The honey goes really well with the pancake and duck meat (surprisingly, since I've had a bad experience with honey eaten with meat). 

Pear & Salmon ($20)

Looks nice on the plate, but it will all be mixed up ~a la bibimbap style~ cos this dish was inspired by the Korean concept of mixed rice and veg. Consists of an egg, seared salmon and pear, in another sesame-ish sauce >.<

Pumpkin Seabass ($22)

Coated with roasted pumpkin seeds, it was a lovely textured dish because it was slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It tasted awesome with the tomato puree. The fish was however slightly dry.

48 Hr Beef

AWESOME, SIMPLY AWESOME. I'm not a fan of beef steaks but I loved this sooooo much! It was cooked over 48 hours (that explains the name) and on a constant temperature of 58 degrees celsius. The end product is a medium cooked steak that is really tender, juicy but not bloody. I was like wow when I saw that it wasn't bloody at all, as expected by medium cooked steaks.

Avo Choco Emotion with Cacao 7 Chocolate ($12)

Avocado puree with chocolate puree, and a cute piece of low-carb chocolate from Cacao 7 and caramelized banana slice. It was a lil too sweet for me, but it was a great way to end this dinner!

[SAMPLE REVIEW] Skinfood Salmon Eye Cream

Hi! I got this a sachet of Skinfood's Salmon Eye Cream with some Korean cosmetics, and only recently I felt like trying it :P

I know right! Salmon?! On your skin?! Well, that's Skinfood for you. Salmon is not as bad as.. CREAMY CHEESE MASK! Well, I like cheese in my food but not on my face. *squirms*




It does not smell one bit like salmon. Smells a lot like jasmine flowers, A LOT!!! An overly strong smell of jasmine, which is weird since salmon is used instead. *50 points deducted*


It's a white cream, which I feel is oily and fatty, and only a little is required. This sachet lasted me for 5 times, for both eyes! Not the best texture for an eye brightening cream. I believe this is gonna be bad for people with oily or problematic skin and may not be able to withstand the richness of this eye cream.

Stays really oily for at least 10 minutes, felt like the absorption was reeeaaalllyyy slow. Besides, I've used it for 5 times and there are no significant changes. No brighteni…

[HAUL] Holika Holika!

The first branch of Holika Holika opened its doors in Singapore @ Wisma Atria today! Supposedly at 12, but when I reached there, they were still drilling and hanging stuff, and said to be back in 30 mins.

A huge poster of its ambassador at the side of its shop, CN Blue!!!!!!! Mysterious Magic Cosmetics~ (and endorsed by guys and a cat.. Hmm mysterious enough)

Before it was open! Yet to pull down its blinds~ It's a shop tucked at the corner, beside an escalator. Near Cotton On!
Couldn't get a nice picture of its sign! But you can see a bit of its interior, which is a lavender colour and has nice shelves! It goes with a mystical or magical theme :)

Hahaha okay so I received over 10 emails on whether I have an extra Macdonald's Hello Kitty to let go or not.
